how do i get the "emo poofy " look on top?

Right get some of ya hair from the back of your head and clip it up.

then with the hair underneath, get a comb or a brush and brush upwards then put the hair you've clipped up, over where you've just back combed ya hair, if u want to make it more messy just back comb it more.

It all depends really, if u want ir really messy just take some of ya hair without clipping it up and just comb upwards untill u get the desired effect.

oh and dont forget to use hairspray afterwards or it'll just go flat n messy.

if you get hair styling product (a nice cheap option is garnier fructis surf hair spray - only about 鎷?) and spray it on your hair and scrunch with your hands.

can also be done with hairspray/gel.

The easiest way to get your hair to do that is to tease it. Especially if you use moose or do it while blowdrying it.

like the other answerers have said get a good hairspray, then gently backcomb the hairs that you antto be poofy and then hairspray it.

Ooh! I always wondered how to do this, then I found out.

Get shorter, thicker layers cut throughout the hair to give it more volume. Then, place your fingers about an inch above your ears on your hair and push up, going all around the head. Spray with hairspray. Voila!
